Summer rain showers and swimming pools and places always remind me of my baptism. Although I was baptized as an infant, about 10 years ago I read the minutes of John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Salisbury, NC session when they approved “the baptism of the son of Gerald and Sarah Hasty.” Strangely, I was not named in record, but I know I am named, claimed, and known by God and that God has, is, and will continue to call me to walk paths I have yet to dream or imagine.

Each week I spend at least two to three hours commuting to daycare with my girls Ibby age 4.5 years old and Karoline, who is 10 months old. The baby sleeps and the preschooler and I spend the drive singing, chatting and playing “I spy.”

April is a busy month in the life of the church. Lent is coming to a close, and Holy Week is coming quickly. But it is still important to maintain a consistent stewardship team meeting schedule. If your pastor is directly involved – and they should be – schedule your meeting earlier in the month so they can attend. You may also decide to have a shorter meeting, or a lunchtime meeting, if that’s easier for all involved.

Growing up as a preacher’s kid, dinner at our house was always a big deal. I knew that I had to be home by 6 p.m. every day so I could sit down with my mom, dad, brother and sister.
