Jarvie Committee awards grants to New York area organizations

At its fall 2024 meeting, the Jarvie Commonweal Service Committee approved grants totaling $345,000 to 10 organizations that provide care to the elderly in the New York City area. The grants are awarded for the 2025 program year.

The Jarvie program offers age-friendly care and support to older adults the New York City area. In addition to offering care and support to individuals, the committee (which oversees the program) awards grants to organizations that provide services to older adults in the area. Grants are awarded each fall. More information about the grant program is available on the Jarvie website, which is here.

The organizations that received grant funding are listed below.

CaringKind

Expanding services in the Chinese-speaking communities affected by dementia with support groups, educational seminars, and special events ensuring that Chinese-speaking caregivers have access to compassionate social work counseling support, and information.

Concerts in Motion

Combatting social isolation through musical performances in individual homes or group settings that promote social engagement through high quality, culturally responsive musical engagement, and conversation.

Encore Community Services

Supporting the hiring of a Community Service Worker to partner with staff social workers and volunteers in the Age Friendly Partnership to identify older adults in the community not currently connected to Friendly Visiting services due to NYC eligibility criteria thereby expanding the reach of program services.

Goddard Riverside

Strengthening services at the Lincoln Square Neighborhood and Isaac Centers by providing intensive case management services to clients with a high level of need.

Health Advocates for Older People

Promoting safe and healthy aging for older adults in NYC through programs designed to facilitate independent living, physical well-being, and greater social interaction and connection.

ProjectFIND

Providing older adults with the services and support they need to enrich their lives and live independently through the support of Technology Cafes featuring immersive Virtually Reality and E-gaming to help older adults participate in stimulating educational, cultural, recreational activities, designed to combat social isolation, increase memory, body movement, and intergenerational engagement.

Riverstone Senior Services

Supporting increased client transportation expenses as well as the work of the caseworker/community outreach coordinator to expand participation and understanding of the memory services provided for primarily Spanish-speaking clients in the predominantly Hispanic area of Washington Heights.

SAGE Eldercare

Supporting home care and Spend-A-Day programs for cognitively impaired older adults and their caregivers with a comprehensive array of services under one roof in Central New Jersey.

SAGE LGBTQ+

Supporting the work of case management that provides vital services (health, financial, housing, legal and general advocacy) as a lifeline for older adults within the LGBTQ+ communities of New York City.

Search and Care

Supporting Healthy Independence: bolstering and expanding supportive services for homebound and vulnerable older adults residing on the Upper West and Upper East sides of Manhattan who are facing physical challenges, mental health issues, financial insecurity, and social isolation.
