Blessing and Benediction from Rev. Dr. Andy Kort
by Rev. Dr. Andy Kort

The wedding at Cana is the first recorded miracle of Jesus. I wonder about all the other miracles and signs that were not recorded, noted, written down, or remembered. Maybe they were just small graces along the way, done without fanfare or attention but they still pointed people to Jesus. I also think of all the small miracles and signs that go unnoticed and are often overlooked in the hurried pace of my normal life. I think of the gift of life, of each breath, of the sun continuing to rise each morning regardless of what happened the day before. I think of the positive relationships I have with others and I remember that I’m not alone. I have them. I have God. I think about the small acts of love and grace done for one another. Shoveling a neighbor’s sidewalk when it snows. Holding a door open for someone who has their hands full. Being patient with a frazzled cashier who is still learning the ropes of this new job. Preparing Communion elements or making coffee in the church kitchen so that the people of God can not only taste and see that the Lord is good, but also be caffeinated while they fellowship. Yes, big miracles and signs such as healings and casting out demons and turning water into wine are certainly noteworthy. I also hope you notice the smaller signs of grace in life too. For like the wine at the wedding in Cana, they can bring joy, celebration, and gladden the heart. And that is a blessing.
