Making online giving easy

How much do people really use online giving to support their worshiping community? It's becoming much more common than ever before. Our Ministry Relations Officers tell us that adding online giving programs to a congregation's web site almost always increases the total dollar amount of pledges coming into a church, especially if church leaders do a good job of making the congregation aware that this is available.
Robert Hay Jr., Ministry Relations Officer who serves the Southeast, often shares the story of a member of his own congregation who found online giving information in a pew rack and set up a generous monthly recurring gift. Prior to that point, he had not made a pledge to the church. The fact that the gift required little time or energy to execute was key, Hay says.
If you think that most people don’t want or need to give online to their church, take a look at these facts and figures from the Nonprofit Source:
• 49% of all church giving transactions are made with a credit card.
• 60% are willing to give to their church digitally.
• Tithers make up only 10-25 percent of a normal congregation.
• Churches that accept gifts online increase overall donations by 32%.
