How to donate to the Theological Education Fund
May 3, 2017 by Lee Hinson-Hasty
As I meet with Presbyterians all over the country, one of the questions I get asked the most often is how to give to the Theological Education Fund.
You will certainly be forgiven if you think it’s a simple question – too simple to ask, really. But in truth, we do need to explain a bit about how to give to the fund, and how this has recently changed.
At the start of 2015, the Theological Education Fund moved to the Presbyterian Foundation. Donations that were once made through congregations, Presbyteries, Synods and other institutions can still be made that way, of course.
It depends on what happens next as to whether or not your thoughtful and valued gift is received and acknowledged as quickly as it should be.
Many churches and mid-council offices don’t know that our fund moved to the Foundation. They’re still writing and sending checks to the Presbyterian Mission Agency, designated to our Fund. As with all large organizations, it takes more time to process the donations and get a report to us sharing with us the great news that you’ve given us a gift.
Instead, we ask that individuals, churches, Presbyteries, Synods and whoever else we’ve missed in this brief list send their donations directly to the Foundation. If your congregation gives to us directly, we will be happy to let your Presbytery know about your gift. Your congregational gifts may also be made to your Presbytery, which will forward the funds on to us. Please encourage your Presbytery’s stated clerk to ensure that gifts are coming to us here at the Foundation.
Checks to the TEF should now be sent to:
Theological Education Fund
200 E 12th St
Jeffersonville, IN 47130
Donations can be made online here.
If you’d like to give something other than money you have on hand right now, such as a bequest or a gift of stock, real estate or other asset, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or (844) 896-2959. I’d like to know that you have us in mind (and express my gratitude) and also ensure that you have what you need to make that future gift.
We’re grateful for all that our supporters do to buoy theological education in the Presbyterian Church. It is our goal to address the need for pastors for churches for generations to come, and your gifts make that possible.
