Our mission is to assist people impacted by Hurricane Katrina who are struggling to rebuild their homes and their lives. Project Homecoming assists persons who are low-income, uninsured, underinsured, disabled and/or elderly with the rehabilitation of their flood damaged homes and with other direct services. Much of the labor is provided by volunteers. Oversight of the rebuilding of houses is provided by construction managers who are on the staff of Project Homecoming. With the involvement of hundreds of volunteers who come from around the country each week, Project Homecoming is able to rebuild houses at a cost 1/3 of what a professional contractor would charge, making it possible for persons with limited resources to rebuild and return home.
