Imagining a More Equal Pulpit: Gender Inclusivity and Asian American and Latino/a Churches
The Sunday morning pulpit is overwhelmingly male. Despite several waves of feminism and the recent rise of postcolonial and eco-feminist discourse in academia, Asian American and Latino/a churches remain largely patriarchal in structure and theological orientation.
When women are hired, they are still generally paid less than their male counterparts. This effectively silences women, despite their being a numerical majority in the church. The male pulpit also contributes to the loss of congregational vitality as Christians who desire gender equity, especially younger women and men, exit the church due to its perceived irrelevance.
Who should attend?
